Frankenstein by Mary Shelley

Holst T (1831) Frankenstein. Frontispiece
from Mary Shelley's Frankenstein,
1831 edition, Copper Engraving

Thanks for a great session on Joseph Wright last Tuesday - I was really pleased with the level of our discussion of the painting An experiment on a bird in the air pump.

This Tuesday (February 15 2011) we will discuss Mary Shelley's Frankenstein (and also its later adaptations). To get the most out of this seminar it is essential to read Mary Shelley's book, first published in 1816 and written when she was 18 years old. The book is readily available in some very reasonably priced editions. The Penguin Books (2003) edition has a very useful introduction. You can also download the book at no cost, in various formats, from Project Gutenberg http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/84 . I look forward to seeing you on Tuesday.
